Benicio del Toro Joins Wes Anderson’s Next Movie Cast

In a recent episode of The Hot Mic Podcast, industry scooper Jeff Sneider revealed that Oscar winner Benicio del Toro is rumored to be the latest actor to join Wes Anderson’s next movie cast. “Last week’s show, I told you that West Anderson was casting a new movie,” Sneider said. “You know he [Wes Anderson] likes to work with a lot of familiar faces. I’m told that one such actor from The French Dispatch will be joining Wes Anderson’s next movie is Mr. Benicio del Toro.”

Should his casting be proven, he would be starring alongside previously announced cast member Michael Cera, who’s currently set to appear in another high-profile movie in the form of Greta Gerwig’s live-action Barbie movie. Anderson’s untitled project would also reunite del Toro with the acclaimed filmmaker after working together in 2021’s The French Dispatch.

Wes Anderson’s Upcoming 2023 Movies

Before directing the untitled project, Anderson is currently busy preparing for the forthcoming debuts of his two new movies: Asteroid City for Focus Features and The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar for Netflix, which are both set for 2023 releases.

Asteroid City will feature a number of new A-list collaborators for Anderson including Tom Hanks, Margot Robbie, Scarlett Johansson, and more. “It tells the story of a fictional American desert town circa 1955 and its Junior Stargazer convention, which brings together students and parents from across the country for scholarly competition, rest/recreation, comedy, drama, romance, and more,” reads the official synopsis.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar is based on the short story by Roald Dahl about a man who can predict the future and see through objects after stealing a book. The adaptation stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, Rupert Friend, Richard Ayoade, and Ben Kingsley.
