Following an intense bidding war, Amazon Studios has successfully won the distribution rights to David Leitch’s upcoming spy thriller film Red Shirt, with Channing Tatum attached for the leading role. Deadline brings word that the project received seven offers from major streamers and studios including Paramount Pictures and Netflix. Further details about the acquisition are still being kept under wraps, but the outlet’s sources described the deal as one of the biggest sales of this year.

Red Shirt will be directed by David Leitch, based on an original pitch by X-Men scribe Simon Kinberg. Further details about the project’s plot and characters are still being kept under wraps, but it is being described as a “new spin on James Bond” and has the potential to become a franchise.
The film will be produced by Leitch and Kelly McCormick for 87 North, along with Tatum for Free Association and Kinberg for Genre Films. Peter Kiernan and Reid Carolin are also producing through Free Association.

Tatum’s notable movie credits include Step Up, Magic Mike, 21 Jump Street, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and more.
