New Line Cinema has announced that production on its forthcoming horror sequel The Nun 2 has officially started in France. Like the 2018 film, the long-in-development next installment will once again take place in Europe. The film is currently slated to hit theaters on September 8, 2023.

The Nun 2 is being directed by Michael Chaves (The Curse of La Llorona, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) from a screenplay written by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, based on Akela Cooper’s latest draft. The upcoming sequel features the return of Taissa Farmiga as Sister Irene and Bonnie Aarons as the titular demon/Valak. They will be joined by new cast member Euphoria actress Storm Reid.
The film is produced by James Wan and Peter Safran, with Gary Dauberman and Michael Clear serving as executive producers.

The Nun starred Demian Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, and Bonnie Aarons. The film was a box office hit with a worldwide gross of over $360 million, making it the highest-grossing film of the franchise.
